The horse is one of the two mounts in the game, the other being the Boat.
Gameplay Aspect[]
When the player cries for help by pressing LT (or the Call for Help key on a keyboard (Q by default)), all horses in the level will run towards them; the player can then ride them, with the horse being able to get over water and spike blocks; it is immune to beams from laser blocks. It can only jump one block, and it can easily get trapped on some levels if it wanders beyond where a player or their cries for help can reach it.
When not being ridden, the horse simply wanders around the map. The horse does not attack anyone when not being ridden, however when a player rides them they can make the horse rear up on its hind legs and attack either from the front or back.
- The back kick is performed by B on a controller or the Punch key on a keyboard
- The front kick is performed by X on a controller or the Push/Swipe on a keyboard
Horses cannot be harmed by weapons nor by missiles from Robots; it cannot be killed by boulders falling on top of it either.
Appearance[]
The horse is a square-shaped creature with this being its biggest feature, lacking a visible neck and getting around on its stubby legs. It has hairs on its back like a regular horses' tail, which swishes back and forth when running. Horses spawned from Horse Stables match the colors of the stable itself, which match the team they're designated to, but all other horses are usually pink.
Trivia[]
- Horses are often referred to by fans as "pigs." This is interesting as the only similarities they actually have are that they are both pink and chunky. Every other trait of this creature matches those of a horse.
- In the Level Editor, there is a weird oddity where the horse shows up as white when selecting it and placing it around, but testing the level turns it pink like the horse normally is.
- Despite being able to climb up one-block walls when controlled by a player, a horse will not do this if a player is not riding it, unless it is being called by the player.
- A horse will not respond to help cries if the crying player is at least 4 blocks above or 5 blocks below the horse's current elevation.
- This horse design's first appearance was in Dan Paladin's 2005 Newgrounds game, Train Robber![1]
- Additionally, there is a official T-shirt design of the horse on the Behemoth store, with three unticked boxes labelled tofu, horse and refrigerator. It seems even the developers are aware of how nobody can agree on what this thing actually is.
- Horses also appear in Pit People, another game made by The Behemoth, although they look completely different, as they have necks and are purely white in the game, something the horses in BattleBlock Theater do not have.
