Duck Shark[]

Ducksharkdead

A dead duck shark.

The Duck Shark is a very friendly entity that appears in various puzzles within levels, acting as a companion that will help you get up or far. It also appears in the beginning cutscene and ending alongside the Golden whale.

Gameplay Aspect[]

Egg

The Egg that the Duck Shark Hatches from. The player must touch the egg in order to hatch it.

The duck shark hatches from an egg; the egg is hatched by a player jumping on top of it, punching/sliding/kicking it, or when the egg falls from somewhere. Afterwards, the duck shark will wander around the level wherever it can. It can also walk on walls and ceilings.

It can help the player in various ways, such as being used as a platform while it crosses water. It can also help a player reach a ledge they can't quite reach by standing by the ledge with its talon extended out, so when the player jumps towards the outstretched talon, the duck shark will catch them and help them get up over the ledge.

Duckshark ejectingplyr

Alongside this, it can stand and let the player come close so it can eat them and then crap them out right after, launching the player forwards by a long distance to make long jumps or avoid a long array of hazards in their way. You need to place down a Duck Help sign where you want the duck shark to do this to allow it to happen though.

The duck shark will stop at any Duck Help sign. If it does not detect a player for a few seconds while standing at one, it will start walking in the same direction it was originally.

It can be punched/pushed to make it go in the other direction.

It can only be killed by stop signs made specifically for it, in which case it will explode and then spawn back where its egg was. If you are near its explosion, it will kill you, but only if that is the first time it has happened since the level started. Its explosion is only lethal once per level, and the game plays the animation of the player being crushed for some reason. If there is no stop sign or help sign, it will continue walking forever.

Appearance[]

The duck shark is a creature rather bizarre in design, as it resembles a plump, bright green duck-like creature with what appear to be upside down yen symbols for eyes. It has a lighter, more lime underbelly. It is referred to as a shark in the opening cutscene of the story mode and is even shown shapeshifting into a actual shark, with blue pants.

Trivia[]

  • The Duck Shark Egg can be shoved by the player without breaking it. The egg is also affected by wind and can be moved that way too.
  • It does not have its signature light lime underbelly in the opening cutscene.
  • There was a prototype of a duck shark plushie made by Behemoth, however it never came to fruition.
  • Its ability to consume the player combined with spike blocks right next to it can lead to invincibility if the player hits the spikes and the creature's mouth at the exact same time. The player dies from the spikes, but because the duck shark ate the player immediately afterwards and interrupted this sequence, this grants invincibility to the player. The cons to this though are that pressing the Y button/Relief key at any point disables this and when you're in this state, you cannot use the LT button/Grab key for anything. This makes some levels impossible to beat while maintaining it, due to needing to move blocks or climb Monkey Bars.
  • The Duck Shark has its own Star Head.
  • Little known fact, duckshark meat is rich in vitamins and oils that are great for your hair. Leaving you with a rich, full, luster and tufts not unlike the duckshark.
