Custom Prisoners

BBTDefaultCustomHead — The head that appears on other users when Remote User Faces is disabled.

Custom Heads[]

In the PC version of BattleBlock Theater, users are able to create and upload their own custom prisoners by adding them as pngs into the UserFaces folder themselves.

Blank Shape Head Templates for custom heads[]

Custom Prisoner Guidelines[]

All custom head files must be 128×128 PNGs placed in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\BattleBlock Theater\GameData\UserFaces". Custom heads are always static pngs and cannot have more than one layer nor can they be be animated, unlike some official heads such as Lava Lamp. If the PNG is not 128x128, they will not work, or show up in the game.

If you are playing Online, you must enable Remote User Faces in the settings, so that you can see everyone elses' custom prisoners, and they need to do the same to see yours.

BattleBlock Theater must be relaunched to add new prisoners.

Only 60 custom prisoners can be displayed at a time..

Custom Prisoners Notes and Tips[]

For best immersion, heads should have a black 4 pixel outline. The official heads always use bold, black linework; so programs that can imitate the brushes used in=game well-such as Ibispaint, Gimp, Paint.NET or Flash-come very handy in here!

The heads get squashed in the game, so make sure to stretch your heads left and right.

If your head is completely white or primarily white, you can try adding some small light grey shading; you can go further with an extra step by colour dropping the exact grey used in official heads aswell.

Fill masked-out areas with black to mitigate any possible white fringing outside the outline.

Frontally facing heads should be offset slightly right of center so that the direction the prisoner is facing in-game is obvious.

Watch out for your custom head being stretched vertically! This can be fixed by slightly squishing the custom head that you are using. If you wish to have a perfect head shape that is stretched correctly, please feel free to use the Blank Templates located on-top of this page, you can place them in a layer and then make a new layer drawing over them.

When making custom heads, its a good idea to download the pngs from these pages: Circle Heads, Square Heads, Cylinder Heads, Triangle Heads , and the Star Heads page, because you can place them into a second layer over the blank templates posted above, and get them stretched correctly, once you do that you can just copy and paste the features you like onto your own custom head (Like the Frogert Head posted in the Gallery).
